At the two St James we see ourselves as part of the worldwide church. We are part of the Church of England, in the Diocese of Oxford.
We believe that God makes it possible for everyone to know him as their heavenly Father through his son Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. We seek to proclaim and demonstrate the love and power of Christ to everyone regardless of age, gender, race or culture. We believe that God has called us to serve Him not just locally but for the benefit of our nation. We define our mission and ministry as a church in terms of Bring, Build, Send.
Bring
Some 8500 people live in our parish and thousands more in the wider area from which our congregation is drawn. Through our lives and our ministry we are committed to sharing the love and hope of Christ with everyone who lives in our community, whatever their age or background.
Build
We believe that there is something beautiful and distinctive about the community of faith that is the church that speaks of God’s love for every person. On an average Sunday 450-500 adults, and around 200 children and young people come to the different services and Sunday groups. During the course of a normal week there are many activities and small groups that bring people together. We aim to be a Christ-centred community where everyone is supported and encouraged to grow in faith, hope and love.
Send
We believe that the strength of a church is measured on the basis of its sending capacity not its seating capacity. Every one of us is called by God to serve his purposes in our world, starting where he has already placed us. We seek to send our resources and ourselves to communities around the world that need our support and help in their own gospel ministry and so have links with many organisations globally.
All members of staff are required to accept and agree the Evangelical Alliance Basis of Faith
