Alpha

Over 18 million people worldwide have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in thousands of churches across the world.

Time Magazine

“Alpha is an unqualified triumph.”
The Daily Telegraph, London

“Alpha makes Christianity relevant to modern life.”

What is Alpha?

The Alpha course, is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. It’s relaxed, low key, friendly and fun. Listen, learn, discuss and discover. You can  ask anything, Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.

What’s involved?

The Alpha course looks at a series of topics, such as ‘How can I develop a relationship with God?’. After a short presentation, we divide into small groups for a time of informal discussion.

The start dates for the next Alpha Courses are:

Wednesday evenings at the Saint James Centre 7.30pm – 10pm (with supper)  Dates are 7th May – 9th July

Thursday mornings at the Saint James Centre 9.30am – 11.15am (with crèche)  Dates are 1st May – 10th July (excluding half term)

FIRST SESSION (1st or 7th May) – Is there more to life than this?

An opportunity to explore the spiritual dimension of our lives and its relevance today.

Coming to this  does not commit you to further sessions!

Then over the following weeks –  the  topics below are discussed and explored.

Who is Jesus? - Did he actually exist, who did he claim to be?

Why did Jesus die? - Was there a purpose behind his death?

Did Jesus really rise from the dead? - What is the evidence that this actually happened?

How can we have faith? - What does faith really mean?

Why and how should we pray?  - What is the purpose of prayer and is there a specific way to do it?

Why read the Bible? - Does the Bible really have relevance to today’s life?

The Holy Spirit  - Who is the Holy Spirit, what does the Holy Spirit do and how do we respond?

How can I resist evil? - What is evil and how can we protect ourselves?

Does God heal today? – Does miraculous healing happen in the 21st Century?

What about the Church? - Is Church a building or a community?

Who is Alpha for?

  • Those wanting to investigate Christianity
  • New Christians
