…are groups of people who meet to do ‘life’ together. They are places where community can develop and people can work out what it means to be a disciple of Jesus in the 21st century.
Working this out in community is what it means to be a follower of Christ. He never meant for us to do it alone. So we build communities where we find friendship, give and receive pastoral support and encourage each other to grow in our faith.
This life together is lived in three dimensions: UP (a transforming relationship with Jesus), IN (authentic community with each other), OUT (being the Good News of Jesus where we live and work).
Assimilation: We invite and welcome new people and always have an ‘empty chair’.
Buddies: we spur one another on and help each other to grow (accountability).
Confidence in the gospel: together we gain confidence in knowing the good news and in applying it to our lives.
Disciplines: at the centre is Jesus Christ whom we encounter through Bible reading, prayer, and worship. Many other Christian disciplines can help us to become more like Him. There is so much more to discover about establishing godly patterns in our lives.
Engagement with the world: God invites us to be a part of his mission to a broken world – by supporting one another at our frontlines*, praying for the needs of the world and being creative with activities that reach out beyond our group.
Family Together: we share life (and have fun doing that!) and give people a taste of what it means to be the new community of Christ, marked by trust and sacrificial love. Everyone contributes. Lifegroups are the main provider of pastoral care at St James – no-one has to stand alone! Each Lifegroup will have a slightly different feel to it, as each group is made up of different people applying the ABCDEF in ways which works for their group. Download a document that gives you information on every group so you can find a group that works best for you.
* Frontline: the place where you spend the majority of your time in contact with non-Christians.
We currently have about 40 lifegroups that meet either weekly or fortnightly in homes around the local area. We have both daytime (some with child care) and evening groups to help you fit into a group that works for you.

We believe that lifegroups are vital in helping people find a place to belong within church and therefore to see growth in our discipleship. We long to see every member of our church in a Lifegroup.
To join a lifegroup either speak to a friend at church and ask to join them for a week or two to find out whether it could be right for you. Each group is open to welcoming new people. Alternatively you can contact James Leach on 01753 886480 or use the contact form below.
